Aluminum tube laser cutting: the advantages of optical fiber
In fiber systems the beam is produced by the so-called laser seed, and is amplified by special glass fibers. The wavelength of this source makes it faster and more powerful in cutting, and particularly suitable for processing very thin or high-reflective materials, such as aluminum and its alloys, copper and brass.
In general, these systems perform better than CO2 technology, and have several advantages:
- Increased cutting efficiency, with the same power;
- Speed and stability in machining;
- Reduced energy consumption;
- Less maintenance of machinery.

Laser cutting of aluminum without dimensional limits
Thanks to the presence of 3 systems with fiber optic lasers, Tubilaser is able to cut aluminum profiles without any shape and size limit: round sections with a diameter of 12-360 mm, square sections 12×12 mm to 250×250 mm long and rectangular tubes from 20×10 mm to 300×150 mm, going so far as to work pieces up to 12.5 meters in length.
The wide range of dimensions that can be worked with the fiber laser has allowed us to meet the needs of a company operating in the lighting sector, which in 2015 turned to us for the laser cutting of aluminum tubes with a diameter of 250 mm and a length of about 10 meters. The company had won a contract for the construction of street lamps destined for the United Arab Emirates and, despite having contacted several companies from different countries, had not found anyone able to work tubular profiles of this size. Thanks to a prototype plant installed exclusively worldwide the previous year, it was able to accommodate the customer's requests, using fiber optic technology to cut aluminum pipes.
